We won the dragon boat class @ the Run of the Charles!

My bones are creaky with fatigue, my beautiful face is mildly sun-toasted, and paddling gear is piled in heaps all over my house. I guess that’s how things go after a weekend of paddling 18+ miles!! Ok, I just stood there and steered, but enough about me already.

2010 Pool Workouts and Rubber Duckies

Whether you say “Twenty-Ten” or “Two thousand Ten” (like I do), there’s no doubt that this year Living Root has once again gotten off to a fabulous start.
We’ve had several new members plus up our ranks and our pool training has gotten intense. With new drills like “The Juice Box,” “The Margo” and a [...]

Philadelphia Phun

This past Saturday, we started the day of racing in Philly with what we thought was a standard, lackluster 500m time trial. No wind, no current, but the rating was a bit high, and people felt like they couldn’t put much more into the finish. Sound familiar? Well, we [...]

Set Sail 2009

Sunday, September 13, 2009 was the annual Set Sail fundraiser for Spaulding Rehab’s Adaptive Sports Program. As a way of giving back to Spaulding for allowing us to use their dock space, many Rooters gave their time to help kids, parents, and even some tipsy architects experience the joy of dragon boating.
Thank [...]

Montreal Afterglow

A message from your Captain P:
I am finally recovered enough to form complete sentences and operate a keyboard, so here’s a quick and dirty recap of this weekend’s quest for glory.
You guys did great! Our mixed boat started off the day pulling a 2:21.08 after a totally lousy start. It [...]

Boston 2009: Total team effort

We’re a bit exhausted after this past weekend’s total warfare on the water, but really happy with how everyone did. The final results of the day showed that Maverick pulled a 2:49.33 for second place in the C Minor finals and Goose pulled a 2:31.46 for 1st place in the B Major Finals. [...]

Living Root’s paddlers are getting ready to race in Boston at the beginning of June! We’ve been practicing our starts, race pieces and sprints and training up a ton of newbies for their very first dragon boat race. We’re really looking forward to racing again - it has been WAY too long since [...]

Getting out on the water, take two

Well, Living Root tried to start our 2009 on the water season yesterday, but freezing temperatures kept us inside for a few more days. I know people are really itching to get out there, but 37 degree temps, strong winds and driving rain would not have made for a good practice!
We’ll try again on Tuesday, [...]
