Living Root Dragon Boat returned to the Charles River on Sunday March 30, 2008 with its two Simon River Sports dragon boats.

Special thanks to Charles River Canoe & Kayak, AccesSportAmerica and Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital for helping us facilitate our winter storage and boat moving.

Athletic men and women are invited to race with Living Root Dragon Boat in 2008. Training is already underway at our winter indoor pool training facility! Registration is now open to race with our team at the Boston Dragon Boat Festival on June 7-8, 2008.

Opportunities to race in Boston, Ottawa, US Nationals/Long Beach, Pawtucket, Hartford and San Francisco are available!

No prior experience necessary. Athleticism, good overall fitness, and/or prior triathlon, swimming, basketball, cycling, marathon, volleyball, rugby, field hockey, lacrosse, football, soccer, running, crew, rowing, sculling, paddling, canoeing, white water rafting, outrigger, kayaking, water polo, or yoga experience a plus.

Saving Teens In Crisis Collaborative (STICC) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization based in Sudbury, Massachusetts, USA. STICC was formed in April of 2004 to assist disadvantaged troubled teens and families struggling with substance abuse and other emotional issues.

"Staffed entirely by volunteers, STICC works with health organizations, educational consultants, wilderness programs, boarding schools, rehabilitation centers and educational lawyers to steer these families to the resources that they need, but did not know about and could not afford. By leveraging the expertise and generosity of dedicated professionals and caring institutions, STICC guides children and their families towards a brighter future.

Saving Teens In Crisis Collaborative (STICC) was founded to provide that framework, as well as the necessary financial assistance, by means of a comprehensive, multi-phase plan that incorporates both financial and emotional support throughout an 18-24 month process of evaluation, intervention and education.

The STICC methodology is different because it provides a long-term holistic approach which incorporates all of the professional disciplines—the medical professionals, educational consultants, wilderness programs, boarding schools, and rehabilitation centers—to evaluate, place, and fund a child into an appropriate sequence of programs and schools." Living Root Dragon Boat participated at the Head of the Charles rowing regatta this past October 19-21, 2007 on the Boston side of the Charles River. An estimated 174,000 spectators watched the racing during the weekend which included more than 8,200 rowers from 17 countries and 39 states. Special thanks to Sandy Parker and David Parker for setting up, coordinating and staffing our tent at the event. Special thanks to Margo Mungovan for her last minute, custom decal work.
